joy division//sordide sentimentale
my vinyl wet dream. sordide sentimentale.
only 1578 were pressed to be sold only in france. a 7" single with atmosphere and dead souls, but a 3 page sleeve with artwork by jean-francois jamoul and writting by jean-pierre turmel as well as one of the most famous joy division photos. most of the pressing was sent just as the paper sleeve and record, later copies were sent in a plastic sandwich bag. the original record is completely indistinguishable and plain from the outside, and still are now being sold in excess of 600GPB.

the durutti column//sketch for dawn//never known
some durutti column for a rainy night in manchester.
favourite book//days between stations
i just finished this and i'm still extremely confused, and extremely in love. there is no way to explain what happens, or why it happens. and you could easily go insane trying. but maybe that would ruin it? i blame school for this need to over analyse and find meaning in everything, sometimes just being able to enjoy is enough. ericksons writing is a love and hate situation, i believe in grey areas but not in regards to this. ive read reviews and talked to people who read the first 20 pages and never picked up his work again. and sometimes when mid thought the story disintegrates and moves to another demension/time/location the urge will strike you to throw the book away and never think of it again. but don't. it's such a sense of achievement when you finish and still manage to have your sanity intact.

joy division//manchester
in manchester, so a joy division post is required. its a bit eerie listening to this stuff here, im reading 'touching from a distance' at the moment and the whole thing is desperately sad. i have to debate at times whether or not i want to pick it up and keep reading. on the up side JD vinyl is cheap and everywhere, and manchester is the best (and seediest) city ive been to so far. interesting people and so much good music its insane. couldn't decided between these two perfectly imperfect songs, so you got both.

teen daze//shine on, you crazy white cap
this is cool, but i think they're a bit late. and the name of the band is too cliched to be genuine - it made me cringe, but maybe thats just me. but whatever, its a good song and the footage really suits the style. perhaps not as remarkable as the washed outs and memory cassettes, but still definitely worth the 4:09 minutes it takes to watch/listen.

Found this album by pure chance the other day, one i thought i would never have on vinyl. perfect condition, with original booklet, so much more exciting the downloading.
"Do you know the warm progress under the stars?
Do you know we exist?
Have you forgotten the keys to the Kingdom?
Have you been borne yet & are you alive?
Let's reinvent the gods, all the myths
of the ages
Celebrate symbols from deep elder forests
[Have you forgotten the lessons of the ancient war]
We need great golden copulations
The fathers are cackling in trees of the forest
Our mother is dead in the sea
Do you know we are being led to
slaughters by placid admirals
& that fat slow generals are getting
obscene on young blood
Do you know we are ruled by T.V.
The moon is a dry blood beast
Guerilla bands are rolling numbers
in the next block of green vine
amassing for warfare on innocent
herdsmen who are just dying
O great creator of being
grant us one more hour to
perform our art
& perfect our lives
The moths & atheists are doubly divine
& dying
We live, we die
& death not ends it
Journey we more into the
Nightmare
Cling to life
our passion'd flower
Cling to cunts & cocks
of despair
We got our final vision
by clap
Columbus' groin got
filled w/ green death
(I touched her thigh
& death smiled)
We have assembled inside this ancient
& insane theatre
To propagate our lust for life
& flee the swarming wisdom
of the streets
The barns are stormed
The windows kept
& only one of all the rest
To dance & save us
W/ the divine mockery
of words
Music inflames temperament
(When the true King's murderers
are allowed to roam free
a 1000 magicians arise
in the land)
Where are the feasts
we were promised
Where is the wine
The New Wine
(dying on the vine)
Resident mockery
give us an hour for magic
We of the purple glove
We of the starling flight
& velvet hour
We of arabic pleasure's breed
We of sundome & the night..."

zaireeka//listeningparty
'it was and is "surround sound" for the extreme fanatic'- Wayne Coyne
i was reading a flaming lips review in the paper a couple of days ago - talking about their new album of pink floyd 'dark side of the moon' covers - and it got me thinking about all their albums, and then i thought 'zaireeka', and then i thought 'shit! a zaireeka listening party would be perfection'. so now im stuck on this idea, ive never heard them played properly with the 4 CD players and youtube has tons of videos of people having their zaireeka listening parties. so i want to join the craze (yes, im 13 years late). ive heard bits and pieces, and its interesting, but i dont think its right untill you've heard it the way it was intended to be listened to.
concept-y albums scare me, they have the opportunity to go so horribly wrong. bring me some CD players and alcohol so i can conquer my fear.

nothing i can say will do this justice. theres a key-tar! i didn't know anyone had used them since the 80's. mostly this is just an ode to a robert palmer clip, with models doing some bad instrument miming and 2-step dancing. so its pretty much the best thing ive seen in a while, eurotrash has never been so entertaining. if only eurovision had stuff like this...oh wait, it does.

memorycassette//asleep at a party
this is obvious, but it all really does sound and look like being asleep at a party. that dissoriented feeling of waking up after having a nap in the afternoon and seeing that its night and not knowing how much time has passed. or when you were young and your parents were having a party but you had to go to bed early. whenever i hear this song i get that feeling. i can never get sick of this song.

thehunger
If any topic has been sucked of its goodness it would be vampires (pun so definitely intended). and even though this may not be the original vampire movie, it is the best. not much in terms of a soundtrack other than a few iggy pop songs and the opening scene which is a live performance of 'bella lugosi's dead' by 'bauhaus', which is worth watching the movie for in its self. its dark, atmospheric and iconic 80's greatness. but the score is what you should really listen for. composed by micheal rubini and denny jaeger, its cold, calculated and absolutely perfect.
of course the awesome stylised-ness and the too hot chemistry that is catherine deneuve and david bowie helps the whole thing along as well.

spandauballet
spandau ballet may have been owned by tears for fears at the concert last friday night. which i can't say is that surprising. but they didn't completely luck out, they had put together a montage (ew, hate that word) of their own private photos that played on the jumbotron throughout the slow jams. if you could excuse the cliched sappy-ness of this idea, the photos were completely fantastic. most from their early early days touring, with an average age of 20 give or take, the photography was some of the best band photos ive seen. and i suppose the subjects weren't at all damaging to the lens either, maybe some of the most beautiful people i have ever seen. all would have been good if they hadn't made the contrast between 'now and then' so absolutely unavoidable. however even if the looks had faded the level of 'camp' certainly hadn't, that was also absolutely unavoidable.
'True' was still amazing, and i would see it a million times.
I have been unsuccessful in finding photos to do all this justice, so these will have to do

STEN & LEX
"'Poster Stencil' because they are both stencil and poster in the same time.
as you can see we pasted up the matrix of the stencil -cut on paper- on a panel of wood as a poster, we painted on the matrix in black and when all is dry we destroy the matrix letting some parts of the matrix pasted on the wood. By this way the stencil is not reproducible and the matrix die in the work itself."
- Pretty incredible technique. {TESSA DO IT)

'Clipper'
Went to a really nice cafe for lunchylunch today, called 'Clipper' on Glebe Point Rd (up pmatta rd end). I think you can always judge a cafe on the quality of their chai latte, and 'Clipper' is no exception to my rule of chai. It was great with real spicy bits, i would give it a 9 on my chai scale. the cafe was full of cool looking people and had a nice chilled vibe going on. really nice on a sunny wednesday arvo. i also had a fresh fruit salad which was delightful, ne'er a crappy piece of fruit in sight. nice place to take the mama out for a spot of lunch.

I remember the light of darkness doubled,
I recall lightning struck itself,
I was listenin', listenin' to the rain,
I was hearin', hearin' someone else.
I'm in the high point of my night, I feel so impressive, life,
All this time with the Marquee Moon, but just waitin'.
I spoke to the man down at the tracks,
And I asked him how he don't go mad,
He said: "Look here, junior, don't you be so happy,
And for Heaven's sake, don't you be so sad."
I'm in the high point of my night, I feel so d(?)st impressive life,
All this time with the Marquee Moon, hesitating.
Well, a Cadillac, it pulled out of the graveyard,
Pulled up to me, oh they said, "get in, get in".
Then this Cadillac, it puttered back into that graveyard,
Me, I got out again.
I'm in the high point of my life, I feel so impressive, life,
All this time with the Marquee Moon, but I ain't waitin', uh-uh.
I remember how the darkness doubled, I recall lightning struck itself,
I was listenin, listenin' to the rain, I was hearin', hearin', something else.
