the clean.

The Clean is a band from Dunedin in New Zealand, (but they're so good i might do that adoptive thing that Australians love) they formed in 1978 and released their most recent album 'Mister Pop' last year to favorable reviews. I've been listening to their anthology which was released in 2002, and i have to say it is a fantastic collection of songs especially if you like their earlier work.

I've also read somewhere this band had a huge influence on Yo La Tengo and you can definitely tell.

the triffids

"Calenture: Tropical fever or delirium suffered by sailors after long periods away from land, who imagine the seas to be green fields and desire to leap into them"

"Calenture" by the Triffids is by far one of my favorite Australian albums. After months of searching through too many record shops i found an original copy in perfect condition, and i doubt it's been back on my shelf since. David McComb is a fantastic lyricist, and his voice is even more engaging. Super disappointed I'll never get to experience this live, but i would recommend this album to anyone, a truly great example of how good Australian music can be.

blow job massacre

Joel Gion plays the tambourine of my heart, honestly nobody does it with such pizzaz.

On a similar note, BJM was without a doubt one of the best shows I've been to. Amazingly i got to go to both shows, which was an unexpected pleasure. There was a massive change in atmosphere between the two shows, at the metro they were a bit subdued then a total 180 for the second show. But all in all pretty fantastic, I think they only played one song from the new album which was a relief (the new albums good, but not as good). And i got a sticker from Matt Hollywood, does life get any better??
